Early run by Colorado earns 64-52 win over Hendrix

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 18) -- Hendrix College and Colorado College traded the lead four times in the first seven minutes before Colorado used a 15-4 run over a four minute span to grab the last lead change with 13:02 left in the first half, eventually taking the 64-52 decision at Reid Gymnasium Friday night.

Sophomore Kalli Klemling's first basket of the game ignited the game-changing run with 14:11 on the clock. Klemling scored another layup, an assist and a rebound during the stretch, while junior Becky Leutjen scored six of the 15 points and snagged three boards to give Colorado (10-14, 7-8 SCAC) a 21-15 lead with 10:01 left before the break.

The Tigers owned a 31-22 lead at halftime after outscoring the Warriors 20-12 in the paint and 8-2 in points off turnovers. Hendrix (14-10, 10-5 SCAC) would only come as close as seven points the rest of the way, eventually giving up an 18-point margin, 49-31, with 8:43 remaining in regulation.

Leutjen finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and four blocks. Junior Jordy Stephenson added 12 points and Klemling totaled 11 points, seven boards, three assists and three steals.

Junior Anna Roane led Hendrix with 13 points. Senior Christina Byler collected 12 points and junior Katy Ashley-Pauley scored 10 points. Junior Caty Hensy led the squad with 10 rebounds. Ashley-Pauley and Hensy dished out three assists apiece.

Hendrix will now travel to Austin College on Sunday, Feb. 20. The Warriors clinched the No. 1 west seed last week after a win over Millsaps on Saturday, Feb. 12. Colorado now needs a win over Millsaps on Sunday to take the No. 4 west seed in next weekend's 2011 SCAC Tournament, hosted by Millsaps.
