MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team hosted Rockford College in a Northern Athletics Conference Challenge Game. Even though there were no seeding implications on the line, both teams came out and fought to go into the conference tournament on a high note. In a tight and physical game, the Regents came away a 59-55 victory.

Coming out of halftime, Rockford (13-12) quickly extended their two point lead to 12 points. After the teams exchanged baskets, the Regents scored 10 straight points to earn their largest lead of the game, 39-27. Nicole Olson started the run with one of the Regents' two three-point baskets of the game and Melissa Swaziek ended the spurt with an old fashioned three-point play.

However, the Eagles (14-11) answered with a pair of runs. First, Shae Beckwith started 7-0 spurt with a triple and Danielle Dixon scored the final four points to get the Eagles within 39-34. After a Regent bucket, Beckwith knocked down a pair of free throws to spark an 11-0 run. Five different Eagles accounted for points on the run and Maggie Peerenboom gave Edgewood College a 45-41 lead when she drained a three-point basket with just more than nine minutes left.

That lead did not last long however, as the Regents scored the next six points. Brittany Curry put Rockford up 47-45 with a layup to cap the run.

The teams then exchanged baskets before the Regents went on another short spurt. With the score tied at 49, Rockford scored six consecutive points with Curry scoring the final four on the run and the Regents took a commanding 55-49 lead with 1:04 remaining.

Out of a timeout, Dixon made a layup to get the Eagles within four and the Eagles began to extend the game with fouls. Olson missed the front end of a one-and-one on the next trip down the floor. Sadie Ewing grabbed the defensive rebound and Beckwith knocked down a jump shot with 42 seconds left to make the score 55-53.

The Eagles fouled again, and just as Rockford did before, they missed the front end of the one-and-one, giving the Eagles a chance to tie. On the other end of the court, Ewing drove the lane and got fouled, however she missed both free throws. After another foul, Rockford only made one-of-two on the other end, leaving the door open. However, the Eagles missed the front end of a one-and-one and the Regents made three of their final four free throws to seal the 59-55 victory.

In the first half, neither team led by more than four points, with Rockford holding a four point advantage five times. Ewing gave the Eagles their first lead of the game when she hit a triple with 3:01 remaining in the first half to give Edgewood College a 23-21 lead. However, the Regents scored the final four points of the half to take a 25-23 halftime lead.

Edgewood College only committed nine turnovers in the game while forcing the Regents into 21 miscues. That marks the second time this season, the Eagles have committed less than 10 turnovers in a game, the last time was against UW-Oshkosh. However, the Eagles only shot 29.2 percent (19-for-65) from the floor and the Regents went 23-for-52 for 44.2 percent.

Beckwith led three Eagle scorers in double figures with 13 points. Dixon accounted for 11 points and Melanie Walker chipped in with 10 points. Peerenboom grabbed a team-high six rebounds, which also ties her career-best.

For the Regents, it was Curry that led the way with 21 points while Nicole Lawler was the only other scorer in double figures with 10 points. Megan Lawler snared a game-high 12 rebounds in the win while handing out five assists.
