New London, CT --- Sophomore Theresa Logan (Southboro, MA) tallied 21 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds leading WPI to its eighth straight win a 58-35 victory over Coast Guard in a NEWMAC game Saturday afternoon.
The Engineers improved to 13-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play while the Bears dropped their 11th straight to dip to 2-13 overall and 0-10 in NEWMAC play.
WPI led 16-6 with 11:31 left in the first half following a 3-pointer by senior Elle Fontaine (Franklin, MA) and the Engineers led 23-16 at halftime.
Sophomore Karli Collins (Delavan, WI) made a pair of free throws with 9:30 left to make the score 39-29 before WPI started a 19-4 run by outscoring Coast Guard 10-2 run to put the game away taking a 49-31 edge with 6:01 left in game. The Engineers had their biggest lead 58-33 capping the 19-4 spurt with 1:45 left.
Logan had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the way in the second half for WPI which shot 41.8 percent from the floor (23-55) while making five of 11 from 3-point range. The 21 points for the sophomore was one shy of her career-best, set last March in the Engineers ECAC New England Quarterfinal victory over Norwich.
Fontaine added eight points while rookie Callie King (Londonderry, NH) tossed in six points to lead the charge off the bench. Point Guard Baillie McNally (Mapleville, RI) chipped in with five points, five assists and a pair of steals.
Freshman Larla Brown (Kingwood, TX) recorded the fourth double-double of her young career as she led Coast Guard with 21 points and ten rebounds.
The Bears were 13 of 53 from the floor (24.5 percent) while making one of five from 3-point range.
Coast Guard held a slight 39-36 advantage on the glass.
