AU women’s basketball team claims Senior Night victory over Nazareth

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women's basketball team defeated visiting Nazareth College, 75-66, Friday night at the McLane Center. It was a fitting sendoff for the Saxons' four seniors, who played the final home game of their careers and scored 68 of their team's 75 points.

 

Senior forward Autumn McLain scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down a game-best 20 rebounds for the Saxons (10-14, 5-10), who led 33-27 at the half and trailed only once after intermission.

 

Senior guard Lyndsay Murphy added 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, and senior guard Courtney Lincoln had 19 points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists.

 

Nazareth erased a seven-point deficit and grabbed a 47-46 lead on two Rebecca Rumschik free throws with 10:54 left in regulation. A three-pointer by Murphy on Alfred's next possession ignited a 19-6 AU run that gave the Saxons a 65-53 lead with just under six minutes left and Nazareth never got closer than five the rest of the way.

 

Senior forward Lauren Sanford scored six points for AU, and freshman forward Grace Williamson scored seven points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

 

Brittany Wilson (seven rebounds) scored 18 points to lead three players in double figures for Nazareth (8-16, 4-11 Empire 8). Brittany TallChief had 16 points and nine rebounds and Brittany Patenaude netted 10 points.
