HARRISONBURG, VA -- The Eastern Mennonite women's basketball team showed that Tuesday's 101-33 win wasn't a fluke, as they poured in 96 more points Friday night in a big win over Emory & Henry. The Royals shot 50% in the game and had a 48-22 domination in rebounding, as they scored 48 in each half and took a 96-75 romp over the Wasps in Yoder Arena.
Both teams shot very well in the first half, but EMU closed the frame on a 13-0 run to take control. The women led 48-38 at halftime.
The momentum continued in the second half as the Royals scored the first five and never let the lead get below 11 points.
It was the second straight huge offensive output for Eastern Mennonite after a 60-56 loss at Virginia Wesleyan last Saturday. The Royals have shot a combined 54.5% in their last two games and averaged 98.5 points and only 9.0 turnovers.
EMU also had 21 offensive rebounds Friday night to help in their huge rebounding advantage. The women repeatedly got the striple as well, going 28-36 from the free throw line.
Danielle Rittenhouse (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) led the women with 20 points. In her second consecutive start, freshman Kala Yoders (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) did a bit over everything. She notched her third double double with 16 points and game high 11 rebounds. Yoders also topped all players with a career high six assists.
Sara Lamneck (Swoope, Va./Buffalo Gap) was good for 18 points and nine rebounds. Stephanie Rheinheimer (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) provided three triples for 11 points and four assists.
Jala McPherson led Emory & Henry with 24 points and Ashlyn Baird had 22 and six rebounds.
The win pushes the Royals to 14-10 overall and 12-7 in the ODAC. The Wasps fall to 4-19 and 3-16. With just Saturday's home date with Guilford left on the schedule, EMU knows it will finish either fourth or fifth in the ODAC and take on Washington & Lee in the quarterfinals. The ODAC Tournament starts Thursday, Feb. 24, in Salem.
Saturday's game with the Quakers is also Senior Recognition and a WBCA Pink Zone Event, as the Royals help raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Game time is 3:00pm.
