WOOSTER, Ohio – On Wednesday night at the Timken Gymnasium, the College of Wooster gave Allegheny a major scare early in the second half, pulling to within two-points, 31-29 with 13:57 left in the game. The Gators (15-8, 9-4 NCAC), who were needing a win to clinch a home playoff game in the NCAC tournament, shook off the daze from Wooster's best punch and proceeded to kick it into high gear with an 18-6 run over the next seven and a half minutes, eventually cruising to a 65-46 win over the Scots (3-20, 1-14 NCAC).

The catalyst for the second-half surge came off the bench in the form of rookie sensation, Erica Restich. The breakout guard would score 18 of her career-high 24 points in the second half, with all 18 of those points coming after the Scots had pulled the game to within a bucket. Restich was downright dominant down the stretch, knocking down 6-of-7 perimeter shots and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. For the game she was 8-of-11 shooting from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and the perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Over her last six games, she is averaging 17.0 points per game.

The Gators were slow out of the gate in the first half and struggled shooting the ball to the tune of a 30% output. Out of the nine made field goals in the opening frame for the Gators, five were from long range, helping the Gators hold an eight-point advantage at the break, 28-20. Senior guard Jill Gregory led the Gators in scoring at the half, pouring in 10 points. She would finish the game with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Despite the scare in the second half, Allegheny led the entire game while Wooster was only able to tie it once.

Sophomore forward Heidi Goeller was productive on the boards pulling down a game-high nine to compliment her six points. Seniors Laura Magnelli and Britni Mohney would highlight the stat sheet with three steals each. For the game, the Gators shot 78% from the free-throw line, keeping pace with their season average of 77% (ranked 3rd in the country).

With the win, the Gators have clinched a home playoff game for the quarterfinal round of the NCAC Tournament and can finish no worse than third-place. After a win over Oberlin, Ohio Wesleyan remains in a virtual tie with Allegheny for second-place. The two teams split the season series, so the final standings will not be cemented until the final buzzer of all NCAC games on Saturday. Allegheny will travel to Kenyon to avenge an early season home loss while Ohio Wesleyan will also hit the road and take on Wooster. Allegheny's tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., while Ohio Wesleyan will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
