(Reading, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team saw two players eclipse the 1,000-point mark on Tuesday night. Seniors Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) both reached the milestone in the first half of a non-conference match up at Albright College. The Red Devils, unfortunately, suffered a 78-70 setback on the night. Dempsey and Sisco become the 10th and 11th players in the history of the program to reach 1,000 career points.
After trailing early, the Red Devils opened seven point lead at the 9:47 mark and held a nine-point advantage at halftime, 37-28. The Lions chipped away at the lead, tying the game, 41-41, at the 16:09 mark. A 15-8 run put Albright in front, 56-49 at the midway point of the second half.
Albright extended its lead to 10 before the Red Devils rallied to cut the deficit to 65-60 with 4:39 remaining in the game. They trailed 72-67 in the final minute but the Lions hit 4-of-6 free throws to secure the win.
Dempsey went over the 1,000-point mark on a jumper at the 10:57 mark of the first half. She finished with 10 points on the night, giving her 1,009 for her career. She dished out four assists, went 4-for-6 from the line and controlled four rebounds.
Sisco tallied her 1,000th with 4:41 to play in the first half, netting 12 points before the break to hit 1,000-even. Sisco finished with a game-high 20 points, adding six rebounds and hitting 6-of-7 free throws. Her first miss in five games came with just 10 seconds remaining, snapping her consecutive streak of made free throws at 34. She set a Centennial Conference and school record for consecutive free throws in a single season. Dempsey connected for a record 38 straight between the end of the 2008-09 season and the beginning of 2009-10.
Sophomore Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) scored 15 points, hitting 6-of-7 shot from the floor and 3-of-4 from the line. Classmate Lindsey Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) tallied 12 points while junior Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) dished out a game-high eight assists.
Jessica McGuinness and Meghan Boyle each scored 18 points to lead Albright (3-4) while Boyle added 16 rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 3-4 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, hosting Ursinus at 2:00 pm.
