(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The top-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team clinched at least a share of its sixth straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season title with a, 74-49, win over Thiel College tonight (Wednesday, February 16, 2011) at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 24-0 overall and 15-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 5-19 overall and 3-12 overall.
Thomas More jumped out to a 6-1 lead with 17:36 to play in the first half when senior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) made a lay-up. Thiel answered with an 8-2 lead capped by a jumper by Ashley Davis to take a 9-8 lead when 15:24 to play in the opening half. The Saints came right back with an 8-1 run to take a 16-10 lead when 11:54 when Dickman made a lay-up. The Tomcats responded with a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 17-14 when Kelly Barzak made a jumper with 9:58 to play in the first half. Thomas More closed out the first half on a 28-10 run to take a 45-24 halftime lead when Dickman made a lay-up with 37-seconds to play in the half.
Thiel opened the second half on a 10-4 run to cut the lead to 49-34 with 15:29 to play in the game when Kelly Muffley made a jumper. Thomas More answered with a 25-10 run to extend the lead to 74-44 with 2:35 to play in the game when in senior forward Dana Bors (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) made lay-up. The Tomcats ended the game on a 5-0 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 74-49.
Three Saints reached double-figure scoring as sophomore guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) had 13 points, Dickman had 12 and senior forward Amy Stultz (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas) finished with 10. Sophomore forward/center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) led the team on the boards with 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with four and freshman guard Emily Sanker (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) led the team in steals with four.
The Saints close out the regular season on Saturday (February 19) when they host 14th-ranked Saint Vincent College at 1 p.m. inside the Connor Convocation Center.
