ROANOKE, Va. – Senior Lauren LeFevers scored 24 points, including four free throws in the final 27 seconds of Guilford College's 78-75 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win at Hollins University Tuesday.
The tightly contested game featured 13 lead changes and five ties. Kayla Adams' (Rural Hall, N.C./North Forsyth) three-pointer with 1:29 left gave Guilford (14-9, 10-8 ODAC) the lead for good after Hollins (6-17, 3-15 ODAC) erased a 13-point second-half deficit.
Guilford led 35-34 at halftime and outscored Hollins, 19-7, over the opening six minutes of the second half. The Quakers' Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) scored 10 of her 22 points during the run, but Hollins bounced back with nine straight points.
Emmie Wright's three-pointer with 4:23 remaining gave Hollins a 67-66 lead. The teams traded baskets over the next three minutes before Phillips made three free throws with 1:42 left, which gave Hollins a 72-70 edge, its last lead of the game.
Guilford's LeFevers added 10 rebounds and five assists in a strong all-around game. Oglesby tallied eight rebounds and three blocks with her 22 points. Morgan King chipped in with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. The Quakers shot 50 percent from the floor, their second-highest shooting percentage of the season.
Phillips led all scorers with 35 points, thanks to seven three-pointers. She hit four treys in the first half and had 21 points by halftime. Jasmine Greene added 14 points and seven assists.
