More news about: Medaille

(Buffalo, NY) – The 21st ranked Medaille College women's basketball team entertained AMCC rival Penn State-Altoona on "Senior Day" in the Sullivan Center.  The Lady Mavs never trailed and led by as many as (33) points en route to a (78-50) win.  It keeps Medaille undefeated on their home floor as they are a perfect (13-0) this season and they have won (28) straight home games dating back to February 7, 2009, a one point loss to Pitt-Greensburg.

It was a game that saw Medaille struggle from the floor in the opening half but would turn it around and scorch the nets in the second half as they cruised to the win.  The Lady Mavs shot a dismal (27.9%) in the opening twenty minutes and then nearly doubled that in the closing twenty by connecting on (54.5%) of their shots.

In familiar fashion Medaille dominated in the paint and on the glass as they outscored the Lions (40-20) in the lane and grabbed (21) more boards than Altoona, winning that battle (59-38).  Seniors Mame Yaa Ankoma-Mensa (Brampton, ONT/D'youville) and Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park)  each grabbed a game high (10) rebounds with Sahhar chipping in with (9) points and Ankoma-Mensa dishing out (5) assists.

Freshman Bianca Smiley (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) came off the bench to lead all scorers with (16) points, while also grabbing (9) caroms and blocking three shots.  Senior guard Jordan Schrimmel (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) knocked down a  trio of three pointers, as she finished with (11) points on the day.  Junior Tanisha Travis (Rochester, NY/Fairport) also scored (11) points and grabbed (8) boards while blocking a pair of shots as well.  Senior Kacie Mills (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) directed the Lady Mav offense efficiently, finishing with (7) assists.

The Lady Mavs improve to (20-2) overall and (15-1) in AMCC play.  This marks the sixth time in the past seven seasons that the Lady Mavs have reached the (20) win plateau, they are an impressive (157-33) over that time span.  Next up for Medaille is a road game with crosstown rival D'Youville College on Wednesday (2/16) at 6:00pm.
