Chicago Defeats Rochester in Top-25 Clash

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Led by Meghan Herrick's 21 points, the 10th-ranked University of Chicago defeated 16th-ranked University of Rochester 66-56 in University Athletic Association women's basketball action Friday night.

With their 14th consecutive victory, the Maroons (18-3 overall, 10-0 UAA) remained one game ahead of Washington (Mo.) University in the conference standings with four games left to play.

Chicago trailed 28-26 at the half before taking the lead for good, 33-30, on a Herrick three-pointer 2:54 into the second period. The Maroons built their largest lead of the game, 53-42, when Bryanne Halfhill hit a three-pointer with 8:03 left in the contest.

Rochester (16-5, 6-4) trimmed the gap to six points, 54-48, on a pair of Kristyn Wright free throws with 4:16 to go, but Chicago brought its advantage back to double digits, 61-51, on a three-pointer from Joann Torres at the 2:09 mark.

One of three Maroons to finish in double figures, Herrick matched her season high with 21 points. Halfhill and Morgan Herrick added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Halfhill also collected nine assists and eight rebounds.

Taylor Simpson grabbed 10 rebounds as the Maroons notched a 44-31 edge on the boards.

Wright paced Rochester with 13 points, while Danielle McNabb finished with 12.

Chicago, which swept the season series with Rochester for the first time since 2004-05, returns to action Sunday at UAA rival Emory University. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. (ET).
