Lady Choctaws Down Patriots, 82-63, for Fourth Straight Win

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team won their fourth straight game with an 82-63 victory over Texas-Tyler on Sunday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

With the victory, the Lady Choctaws are either a win or an Ozarks loss away from qualifying for the ASC Tournament for the eighth straight year.

Prior to the win streak, the Lady Choctaws had dropped five of their previous six games.  MC shot 55% (17-31) from the floor in the second half as they pulled away for the 19-point victory.

The Patriots led most of the first half and held a 25-19 advantage with 5:08 remaining in the period.  The Lady Choctaws would go on a 26-6 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 45-31 lead.

The turning point of the game came 15:30 to go in the game when Cookie Domino of UT-Tyler committed a foul and was charged with a technical foul on the same play.  The Lady Choctaws hit all four free throws and took a 43-31 lead.

The Lady Choctaws were led by senior Jalessa Taylor with 21 points and 15 rebounds.  The 15 boards is the most by a Lady Choctaw in a single game this season.

Sophomore Traci Rodgers poured in 17 points on 6-11 shooting from the floor.  Senior Jennifer Wair just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. 

Senior Randa Lee tallied six assists and eight points in the victory.  Junior Brigit Taylor came off the bench to score 10 points and pull down nine boards.

The Patriots were paced by Melissa Thomas with 19 points on 7-15 shooting.  Paige Parrish added 17 points on 7-19 shooting.

The Lady Choctaws outrebounded the Patriots, 47-35, and went 25-32 from the free throw line while UT-Tyler was only 12-19.

MC will hit the road for two straight games as they open at UT-Dallas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
