#23 Lady Mavs Cruise Past Mt. Aloysius

(Cresson, PA) – The 23rd ranked Medaille women's basketball team headed to Mt. Aloysius this afternoon for a late season AMCC showdown.  The Lady Mavs would dominate the glass and shoot efficiently all game en route to an (85-56) thumping of the Mounties.  It is their fifth straight win and the 17th in their last 18 games.

It was a day of double/double's for Medaille as three players accomplished that feat.  Leading the way was junior Tanisha Travis (Fairport, NY/Fairport) who matched a game high with (16) points while leading all rebounders with (13).  Meanwhile senior Mame Yaa Ankoma-Mensa (Brampton, ONT/D'youville) was six for eight from the floor for (16) points and she pulled down (10) caroms as well.  Rounding out the double/double club was Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) who continued her strong play with (13) points, (10) boards, and (6) assists.

The Lady Mavs opened up an early lead but were unable to runaway from the Mounties in the opening portion of the first half.  In fact, Mt. Aloysius grabbeda three point lead with (8:36) remaining in the opening frame.  The Lady Mavs would not allow that lead to last for long as they would outscore the Mounties (20-6) heading into the break.

The Lady Mavs would dominate the second half in every aspect, leaving the outcome of the contest clear, another AMCC win.  Another key contributor for the Lady Mavs was junior Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) who went (4 for 7) from behind the arc, finishing with (16) points.  Senior point guard Kacie Mills (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) directed the Medaille offense, dishing out (6) assists while also chipping in with (9)points.

The Lady Mavs improve to(19-2) overall and stay atop the AMCC standings at (14-1).  They will get a much needed rest as they don't play until next Saturday (2/12) when they host Penn State-Altoona on "Senior Day".
