Riley Helps Anchorwomen Sweep Season Series From Owls

More news about: Rhode Island College

Keene, N.H.—Junior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds, 18 of which came off the defensive glass, as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team swept the season series with Keene State in a 60-47 win in Little East Conference action played at Spaulding Gymnasium.

Riley added eight points, two assists, three blocks and a steal for the Anchorwomen (15-5, 6-4 LEC) who remain in sole possession of fourth place in league action. The Owls (10-11, 3-7 LEC) see their record dip below .500 as they occupy fifth place in the LEC standings.

Junior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, RI) dished out a game-high seven assists and contributed 13 points, while cashing in three treys. Senior guard Lauren Harrington (Exeter, RI) and sophomore forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) each posted nine-point, five-rebound efforts.

It was not a good shooting day for the visitors, who saw their top offensive players struggle from the field. RIC shot 40 percent (24-for-60) from the field, while logging a 30 percent-effort (6-for-20) from downtown. The numbers would have been worse from three-point land without Girard's three-for-four performance.

Keene State was abysmal from the field, shooting 23 percent (15-for-64) and missing 49 shots. The Owls connected on five-of-19 (26 percent) from downtown and kept pace with a 12-for-16 effort from the free throw line.

Keene State junior forward Courtney Cirillo (Windsor Locks, CT) posted a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds, while junior guard Meghan Farrell (Chester, VT) chipped in with 10 points.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at first place Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
