The Oswego State women's basketball team was unable to carry momentum from Tuesday's win into Friday night's game at Max Ziel Gymnasium against Cortland as the visiting Red Dragons prevailed, 78-63.  The win pushed Cortland to 14-4 (9-3 in SUNYAC play), while the loss dropped the Lakers to 8-12 on the season (5-8 in SUNYAC play).

Kayla Ryan led the Lakers with 16 points and five rebounds, while Cortland's Brittany Cohen and Micki Volpini shared the lead in points with 16 apiece. Cohen also led Cortland with nine assists and Molly Byrne came away with 13 points and eight boards.

The Lakers went 24-of-69 in shooting and only managed 8 of their 26 tries from beyond the arc, the majority of treys going to Kristen Diglio, who went 3-of-7, and Lauren Nunziato, who came off the bench to convert two of three attempts.

Cortland fared a slightly better 8-for-19 from the three-point line, as Jen Polan went 3-for-5 in three-point attempts. The Red Dragons led by a 25-point margin early in the second half after heading into the break ahead 46-28. A late second half 10-1 run by the Lakers whittled the lead to 73-60, but the Red Dragons never relinquished their lead.

The Lakers will have a week to recover before going on the road for their next game at Plattsburgh Friday night at 6 p.m.
