FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington basketball team used a 16-3 second-half run to distance itself from Green Mountain College for a 73-51 North Atlantic Conference win tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers (8-11, 5-4) are scheduled to host Castleton State College Saturday at 4 p.m. The Eagles (3-15, 1-7) are slated to face Thomas College in Waterville Saturday at 4 p.m.

Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) led 12 Farmington players in the scoring column with 13 points, while Rachel Clement (Gray, Maine) and Lindsay Gordon each added 10 points. Led by Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) and Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) with four apiece, the Beavers dished out a season-high 21 assists, while making a season-low seven turnovers.

Green Mountain scored the first five points of the second half to draw to 39-30, but the Beavers outscored the Eagles 16-3 over the next seven minutes with a Gordon three giving the hosts a 55-33 advantage with 11:40 left in the game.

Chelsea Paul (Northville, N.Y.) led Green Mountain with 13 points with Millicent Hopper (Gouverneur, N.Y.) added 12 points and game-high 11 rebounds.

The Eagles scored the game's first six points, but the Beavers responded with the seven points to get a 7-6 edge 4:24 gone in the opening half. The lead see-sawed with Farmington regaining the advantage on a pair of Busque foul shots at 9-8 and expanded its margin with a 9-3 stretch midframe to go ahead 24-15 with 9:29 until intermission. An 8-0 run of paint points helped the hosts mount a 34-20 lead with 6:05 until break and the Beavers pulled into intermission with a 39-25 lead.

Sierra Pease (West Rutland, Vt.) hit a jumper and Paul knocked down a three to start the second half cut the Farmington lead to 39-30 with 18:15 left in the game, but five points from Gordon and four from Busque led a 16-3 run for the hosts to build the 55-33 lead. The distance did not dip below 20 points the rest of the way as the Beavers came away with the 73-51 victory.
