The host Tommies (15-5 overall, 14-3 MIAC) got points from seven different players in a game-closing 19-7 run as they pulled away from St. Mary's (10-9, 8-8) in Wednesday night's MIAC women's basketball game at Schoenecker Arena.
Coach Ruth Sinn won her 100th game in six seasons and her 75th in the last four seasons. The Tommies also secured an MIAC playoff berth for the 10th time in the 11-year history of the format and is assured of a top-four seed.
St. Thomas shot 65% in the second half after rallying from a nine-point first-half deficit. Freshman Maggie Weiers had 14 points and eight rebounds. Jazmin Townsend had 14 points, Taylor Young scored 12 and Rachel Booth added nine points and eight rebounds.
UST shot 48% from the floorand had only 12 turnovers as it improved to 7-1 in MIAC home games this season.
SMU's Jessica Thone scored 14 points -- all in the first half. Jess Miller added 10 points, Kim Kaminski had nine points and nine rebounds, and Courtney Euerle had eight rebounds and three blocks.
St. Thomas is home Saturday to face St. Catherine (1 p.m.).
