Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) posted her 10th double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 13 rebounds, to lead Macalester past visiting Gustavus 59-47. Jessica Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) added 16 for the Scots. Mucic and Rene combined to go 5-for-7 on three-point tries.
Shannon Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) helped the cause with four assists, while Kyanna Jones (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) had three assists and three steals. Mucic also contributed three steals and a couple blocks.
The Scots have won five of their past seven games and improve to 7-12 overall, 7-9 in MIAC play.
Molly Geske netted 12 points and Abby Rothenbuehler grabbed nine rebounds to lead the way for the Gustavus. The Gusties, who have their six-game winning streak stopped, drop to 11-8 overall and 10-6 in the MIAC.
Mac jumped out on top 18-8 midway through the first half against the MIAC's second-highest scoring team, and led 29-28 at the break after a late Gustavus rally. The Gusties led by a point at 42-41 with 7:29 to play, but the Scots out-scored their guests 18-5 the rest of the way, getting their final seven points on a 7-for-8 free throw shooting effort.
The Scots return to their home court when they host third-place Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday (Feb. 2) at 5:45 p.m. Mac has won four in a row at the Leonard Center.
