RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team had its two-game win streak snapped on Monday night at Nerney Field House following a 64-45 loss against rival Eastern University. Freshman guard Brittany Sandone netted a career-high 25 points for the Cavaliers in the loss.
Sandone shot 7-for-13 from the field overall, draining 4-of-7 attempts from the 3-point stripe. She also knocked down 7-of-9 free throw tries.
Freshman guard MaryKate McCann chipped in nine points and four rebounds. Freshman forward Colleen Stewart gathered a team-high seven caroms.
The Cavaliers struggled to find a scoring rhythm on the offensive end and could not overcome a 25 percent shooting clip in the first half. Eastern owns a nine-point advantage, 30-21, at the intermission.
The Eagles quickly pushed their lead to a game-high 20 points, 46-26, at the 13:59 mark of the second half. Eastern started the closing 20 minutes on a 16-5 spurt.
The Blue & White responded with a 14-4 run of its own over the next eight-plus minutes to trim its deficit to 10 points, 50-40, with 5:24 remaining.
However, Eastern answered with an 11-5 surge to seal the victory. The win ends an eight-game losing skid for the Eagles versus Cabrini and is the first against the Cavaliers since the 2003-04 regular season.
Eastern out-scored the Blue & White in the paint, 34-14, and off turnovers, 27-14. The Eagles also owned a 23-5 advantage in bench points.
Junior guard Shante Jones and freshman guard Katie Lincoln led the way for the Eagles, each scoring 16 points. Junior forward Bekah Roland added 14 points.
Cabrini (6-13, 5-5 CSAC) resumes its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season slate at home on Thursday, Feb. 3 versus Immaculata University. Game time against the Mighty Macs is set for 6 p.m.
