(Buffalo, NY) – Despite playing without their top two scorers the 25th ranked Medaille women's basketball team made quick work of AMCC foe Franciscan University (78-46) in the Sullivan Center this afternoon. The win is the third straight for the Lady Mavs and keeps them alone atop the AMCC standings.
The Lady Mavs jumped out quickly, connecting on 7 of their first 8 attempts from the floor, in building an early thirteen point cushion. They would not look back from that point on as they would go on to lead by as many as (39) points in the win.
A pair of juniors would spark the Lady Mavs offense as Tanisha Travis (Rochester, NY/Fairport) and Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) would each tally a game high (18) points. Travis knocked down eight of her attempts while pulling down five boards. Dougherty drilled four three pointers out of eight tries from behind the arc.
The Lady Mavs again dominated the glass (41-25) with Mame Yaa Ankoma-Mensa (Brampton, ONT/D'youville) leading the charge as she pulled down a game high ten caroms. Fellow senior Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) had a strong all around game, finishing with (13) points, (6) rebounds, (4) assists and (3) blocked shots. Freshman Tara Caples (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) came off the bench to tally (11) points and pull down (5) boards.
As they have done throughout the year Medaille dominated in the lane outscoring Franciscan (36-14) in the paint. They also tallied (27) points off Baron turnovers while limiting the visitors to just (12) points off miscues.
The win improves the Lady Mavs record to (17-2) overall and (12-1) in AMCC play. They will head to Hamburg, NY on Wednesday (2/2) to face Hilbert College at 6:00pm in another AMCC showdown. Medaille won the earlier meeting with Hilbert (82-35) at home.
