Calvin Remains on Top of MIAA Standings With 62-36 Win at Albion

ALBION - The Calvin women's basketball team improved to 16-3 overall and to 10-0 in the MIAA with a 62-36 victory at Albion Wednesday evening.

Calvin trailed 15-10 midway through the first half but ripped off 13 unanswered points to build a 23-15 lead and never looked back.

Calvin led 28-17 at halftime and continued to keep the pressure on the second half, limiting the host Britons to just 19 second half points while the Knights scored 34 points over the final 20 minutes.

Calvin was led in scoring by sophomores Kelsy Irwin and Ally Wolffis with 12 points apiece with Irwin going 4-for-4 from three-point range. As a team, Calvin was 9-of-19 from beyond the three-point arc for a 47.4 percent three-point clip. Sophomore Carissa Verkaik also had 10 points, six boards and three blocked shots while sophomore Julia Hilbrands chipped in with eight points and five rebounds off the bench for the Knights.

Junior Courtney Kurncz also had a solid game for Calvin with seven rebounds and three assists while sophomore point guard Logan Marsh tossed in a pair of triples for six points.

Albion (8-10 overall, 6-3 MIAA) was led in scoring by Patty Rewa with eight points. The Britons shot 30.4 percent overall with Calvin holding a 37-33 rebounding edge.
