#19 Mount Union Stung by Yellow Jackets

BEREA, Ohio -- The nationally ranked Mount Union women's basketball team fell victim to a hot-shooting Baldwin-Wallace squad, dropping a 74-53 decision in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Monday.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets (14-3, 9-1) gained a two-game lead in the OAC standings while Mount Union (14-3, 7-3) is now tied for second with Ohio Northern.

Baldwin-Wallace's Jessica Carpenter scored 29 points while shooting 9 of 11 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point land. Jessica Lairson, also 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, finished with 17 points.

Catherine Spisak contributed 12 rebounds for the hosts and Rachel Rossman dished six assists.

Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) and Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) had 10 points each for the Purple Raiders.

The Yellow Jackets opened the contest with a 9-0 run, but the Raiders answered back with a 12-point streak of their own, turning a 16-6 deficit into an 18-16 lead.

Baldwin-Wallace, which shot 10 of 16 from 3-point range, charged for the first nine points of the second half and never looked back.

Mount Union will return to action on Wednesday when it visits John Carroll for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
