More news about: St. Thomas

The visiting Cobbers sank eight 3-pointers and used a game-closing 29-11 run over the final 10:30 to top the Tommies, 63-55, in Monday's MIAC women's basketball game at UST's Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies (11-5 overall, 10-3 MIAC), who had a five-game home win streak snapped, were outscored 24-9 from the 3-point arc.

The Cobbers (12-4, 10-3) are now tied for second place with St. Thomas, two games behind St. Ben's. Concordia rallied from an early 21-6 deficit and also came back from a 42-29 early second-half deficit.

Alexandra Lippert had six blocks, six rebounds and six points in the second half alone and led a Cobber defensive surge that helped limit UST to 19 points and 23-percent shooting from the floor in the second half (7-for-30). The Toms shot 58 percent in the first 20:00 (15-of-26) en route to a 36-27 halftime lead.

CC's Maggie Bauernfeind had 15 points and five boards and Brittany Jossart had three treys among her 14 points. Lippert closed with eight points, eight rebounds and six blocks.

Jazmin Townsend and Taylor Young each scored 11 points and Sarah Smith had nine points and 13 rebounds for UST.

Ali Johnson's three-pointer with 5:59 left put The Toms ahead 50-49, but Lippert had two baskets during a 9-0 Cobber run over the next 2:30 that built a 58-50 lead.

UST plays Wednesday at Augsburg.
