New York, N.Y., January 21, 2011 – Sophomore Kristin Anda came off the bench to score 14 points and help the ninth-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team pick up a 80-54 victory over New York University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday Night at the Coles Sports Center in New York, N.Y.

Anda was one of three players to score in double figures for the Bears. Freshman Jordan Rettig added 11 points and senior Kathryn Berger kept her double-digit scoring streak alive with 10 points on Friday night. Berger has scored in double figures in 13-of-15 games in 2010-11 and extended her current streak to nine-straight games with at least 10 points.

Anda has now scored in double figures in four of her last five games and is averaging 13.6 points per game during that stretch. The Bears drained five-three points against New York to continue their hot long-range shooting in conference play. In four UAA contests Washington U. is shooting .382 from three-point range and averaging 7.3 treys per game.

Washington University used a tremendously balanced first half offensive attack to take a 43-30 lead into the half. The Bears saw eight different players account for their first 16 points and had 10 different players drain at least one bucket in the first half.

The contest began as a game of runs and the Bears took a 14-9 lead as a Bethany Morrison driving lay-up through the lane concluded a 6-1 scoring run. New York (8-7, 2-2 UAA) answered with a 7-0 burst of its own, briefly leading 16-14, before Rettig registered her first field goal of the game.

Rettig's basket sparked what turned into a 13-2 scoring surge for the Bears. Junior Dani Hoover drained a three to put Washington University in front by seven, 25-18, and sister Alex Hoover sank two free-throws on the Bears' next possession to end the run and provide the Red and Green with a nine-point cushion.

New York closed to within four points later in the half, but the Violets were never able to pull any closer. Rettig was 5-of-9 from the field in the first half to lead the Bears with 10 points. Anda added eight points and Dani Hoover scored 7. The Bears outscored NYU 26-6 off the bench and had 10 assists to just five turnovers.

The offense kept coming for Washington University in the second half. The Bears' lead stretched to 20 points on a Rettig free-throw and the Bears were up 22 as Berger drove the baseline to score on a reverse lay-up. Washington U. maintained its 20-point cushion for the remainder of the second half en route to a 26-point win.

The Bears shot 50.0 percent (32-of-54) from the field in the win and outrebounded New York, 44-30. Washington U. registered 20 assists to just 13 turnovers with Alex Hoover recording six assists to go along with three blocks, five points and five rebounds. Maggie Ely led New York with 17 points and Bianca Storts scored 10.

Washington University (12-3, 3-1 UAA) returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 23, when it takes on Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., at 1:30 p.m. (ET).
