The Oswego State women's basketball team struggled to find its offensive groove as it shot 27.1 percent from the field (16-of-59) en route to a 64-45 loss at Geneseo on Friday night. Kayla Ryan was the only Laker to reach double figures as she compiled 12 points, while the Blue Knights' Bri Dunton was one of three players to finish in double-digits with 15 points. The loss dropped Oswego State to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in SUNYAC play. Geneseo remained perfect in the conference standings at 7-0 and moved to 12-2 on the season.
The Blue Knights took the lead three minutes into the contest, and did not relinquish it. Meagan Stover's layup with 12:54 left in the first half pulled the Lakers to within two points at 14-12, but Oswego State went on a five-minute scoring drought until a layup by Ryan made the score 22-14 in favor of Geneseo. The Blue Knights went on to take a seven-point, 30-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
With the score 34-25, Geneseo put together a decisive 9-1 run over a five-minute span to go ahead 43-26 until a trey by Lauren Nunziato stopped the scoring tear. However, it would be too late as the Blue Knight lead never fell below 13 points the rest of the way.
In addition to Ryan's 12 points, Stover added seven points off the bench. Alyssa Polosky and Brittany Finkle also contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Geneseo. The Blue Knights controlled the lane as they outscored the Lakers, 34-16, in the paint and owned a 46-38 rebounding edge.
Oswego State will look to bounce back on Saturday when it travels to Brockport for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
