RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team shots a season-best 43.7 percent from the floor and snapped a two-game losing skid with an emphatic 75-41 victory versus Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Cedar Crest College on Monday night at Nerney Field House. The victory is the Cavaliers' first on their home court of the 2010-11 regular season.
Freshman guard Brittany Sandone led the Cabrini offense, matching a career-best with 16 points, including 13 in the first half. Sandone shot 5-for-9 from the field overall and knocked down a blistering 4-of-6 3-point attempts.
Junior guard Laura Caron and freshman forward Maggie McElroy each scored eight points. Caron dished five assists and swiped a team-high four steals, while McElroy led the Cavaliers' effort on the glass with seven rebounds.
The Blue & White opened the contest on a 23-0 run and held the Falcons without a field goal for more than 11 minutes. Cabrini owned a 44-16 advantage at halftime behind a 47.4 percent shooting clip from the field.
Sandone sparked the Cavaliers in the first half, connecting on each of her three 3-point field goal tries. Caron coupled eight points with four assists and four steals before the intermission.
Cabrini kept its foot on the accelator in the second half, opening the period with a 3-point field goal from Sandone and pushing its lead to 32 points, 60-28, with 9:43 remaining.
The Cavaliers twice led by a game-high 36 points in the final 3:13.
Cabrini out-scored Cedar Crest in the paint, 47-10, off turnovers, 34-6, and on the fast-break, 33-0. The Cavaliers also benefitted from 33-0 margin in bench points.
McElroy led the Blue & White reserve effort and was complimented by junior guard Allison Gentry's seven points and junior forward Jenn Casper's six points. Sophomore guard Rita McKeown mixed two points with four rebounds and three assists off the bench.
Junior forward Lizzy Sunderhaus recorded a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Falcons in the loss. Senior forward Leann Wallower chipped in 11 points.
The Cavaliers' 75-point effort is a season-high. The Blue & White's 44 points at halftime was more than it had scored in five games this season.
Cabrini (4-9, 3-2 CSAC) continues its CSAC regular season slate on Thursday, Jan. 20 at Immaculata University. Game time against the Mighty Macs is set for 6 p.m.
