Macalester crashed the boards for 24 offensive rebounds and enjoyed a 20-11 turnover advantage, and went on to defeat Carleton 61-46 at the Leonard Center. The Scots take their second straight MIAC decision and improve to 4-10 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
Four Scots reached double figures in scoring, led by Jessica Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) with 14 points and Kyanna Jones (So., Brooklyn Center, Minn. / Osseo) with 13. Rene knocked down 4-of-9 from three-point territory.
Shannon Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) scored 11 points and Holly Schiedermayer (Jr., Waupaca, Wis.) posted a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) helped the cause with nine rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Scots led 16-9 in points off turnovers and 19-8 in second chance points. Mac led 32-22 at the intermission and was never seriously challenged in the second half.
Carleton drops its eighth in a row and falls to 3-10 overall, 2-8 in the MIAC. Akemi Arzouman led the Knights with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ally Weaver added 11 points and Emma Purfeerst finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Macalester plays Wednesday (Jan. 19) at St. Thomas.
