Late Baruch Rally Falls Short in Tough Loss to Richard Stockton (81-80)

The Baruch College Bearcats lost a high-scoring one point contest (81-80) to Richard Stockton College on Monday night in Pomona, New Jersey.

With the result, the Bearcats five-game winning streak comes to an end to drop to 12-4 overall, while the Ospreys of Richard Stockton improve to 10-4.

Richard Stockton led throughout a majority of the contest and was up by as much as 14 points (54-40) with 13:42 remaining in the game.

The visiting Bearcats slowly chipped away at the deficit and were able to get as close as two points (59-57) on a layup by Megan Bouwens with 6:38 remaining.

Richard Stockton built their advantage back up to nine points (71-62) with 1:54 left, but the Bearcats rallied in the final minute and cut the deficit to just one point (78-77) on a three-pointer by Kristin Sells with 11 seconds left.

The Ospreys clinched the home victory by connecting on three of their four free throws attempts in the final 11 seconds to edge the Bearcats for an 81-80 non-conference victory.

Monique Salmon scored 22 of her 24 total points in the second half to finish with a double-double that included 10 assists.  Folashade Akinde (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Bouwens (14 points, 14 rebounds) also recorded a double-double each in the tough loss to an opponent from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

Julia Fagan led five players for the Ospreys in double-digit scoring with 20 points and eight rebounds. LaTonya Oliver had a double-double with 20 rebounds and 10 points.

Baruch will return to action on Wednesday, January 19, with a 5:00 pm CUNYAC road contest at the New York City College of Technology.
