EMORY, Va. – Three players in double figures and 35-7 advantage in points off of turnovers propelled the Bridgewater Eagles women's basketball team to a 90-56 triumph on the road over the host Emory & Henry Wasps at the King Center.   

Bridgewater scored the game's first six points, to jump out to a 6-0 lead with 17:10 to play in the first half behind a pair of layups from sophomore Katelynn Hottinger (Linville, Va./Broadway).

Emory& Henry cut the Bridgewater lead to a 10-6 tally, before a 9-0 Bridgewater spurt put the Eagles ahead by a 19-6 score with 12:43 to play in the opening frame. Senior Jordan Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) posted a pair of treys during the run to propel the Eagles offense.

Following the Bridgewater outburst, the lead remained steady until a pair of Burkholder free throws kick started an 8-0 spurt for the Eagles to push the game to a 35-13 gap with 7:05 to play in the first half.

Both teams traded scores over the next two minutes before another 8-0 mini-run from the Eagles put the team ahead by 30 at a 53-23 margin with 1:38 to play in the opening stanza.

Emory & Henry responded with eight points in 85 seconds to cut the Eagles lead to 22, before a three-pointer from freshman Holly Morgan (Staunton, Va./Buffalo Gap) found the bottom of the net with three ticks remaining in the half to send Bridgewater to the locker room with a 56-31 advantage.

Burkholder paced the Bridgewater offense with 15 points in the opening frame as the Eagles used a 24-to-5 advantage in points off of turnovers to establish an enormous halftime lead.

Out of the intermission, Emory & Henry came out firing, but missed its first six shots of the half as the Eagles used layups from Jenny Logan (Luray, Va./Luray) and Burkholder to build a 29-point lead with 18:02 to play.

Emory & Henry wasn't finished as the Wasps turned in an 11-3 run over the next five minutes to cut the Bridgewater advantage to a 63-42 margin with 13 and change remaining.

After trading scores once again, a layup from Morgan sparked a 21-2 run from the Eagles over the next eight minutes to push the lead to a game-high 41 points at a 90-49 margin with just under two minutes to play.

Over the game's final two minutes, Emory & Henry scored the final seven points, but it was Bridgewater owning the day with a decisive 90-56 victory over the Wasps.

Burkholder's 20-point outing paced the Bridgewater offense. The Bridgewater, Va. native was 7-of-11 on the day, including a 2-of-3 performance from beyond the arc. Morgan chipped in a career-high 14 points for the Eagles, while senior Emileigh Lambert (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) pitched in an additional 10 points for the Bridgewater offense.

Logan tied her career-high with six assists in the victory.

On the glass, Hottinger (Linville, Va./Broadway) led the way for the Eagles with five boards as Bridgewater out rebounded the Wasps by a 44-to-33 tally.  

Emory & Henry was led offensively by a 16-point outing from Courtney Brooks. Brooks also led the Wasps on the glass with a game-high seven boards.

Bridgewater's defense forced 27 Emory & Henry miscues, which turned into a 35-to-7 discrepancy in points off of turnovers. The Eagles also dominated in the paint, owning a 32-to-10 advantage inside, while posting a 43-14 lead in bench points.

Emory & Henry never led in the game, while the 90-point outpouring from the Eagles was the most for the program since a 93-point effort against Guilford in February of 2009.

Bridgewater is back in action on Thursday when the team travels to Buena Vista, Va. to take on NAIA Southern Virginia. Action against the Knights is slated for a 7:00 p.m. tip-time.
