New York, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team (8-5, 4-1 CUNYAC) took to the road on Friday night as the Bulldogs defeated the Hawks of Hunter College (4-11, 2-3 CUNYAC), 60-54, in a huge CUNY Athletic Conference battle at the Hunter Sportsplex.

After falling behind by four at the half, the Bulldogs used a 40-point second half to knock off the Hawks and earn their second straight victory. Brooklyn trailed at the half, 24-20, due in large part to a sluggish start as the Bulldogs shot just 23.3% (7-for-30) from the field in the opening half. The host Hawks shot 39.1% (9-for-30) from the field in the first half.

Brooklyn came out of the break determined to come out victorious as the Bulldogs bounced back with a strong second half shooting 55.2% (16-for-29) from the field in the closing stanza. The Bulldogs also picked up their defensive intensity in the second half, holding the Hawks to 32.4% (11-for-34) from the field in the final half. Brooklyn controlled the glass out-rebounding Hunter 47-34.

Down by two, 41-39, with 7:56 remaining in the game, the Bulldogs would go on a 16-7 run over the next five and half minutes to take a seven point lead, 55-48, the largest advantage by any team in the game. Brooklyn would hold off the Hawks for the remainder of the game to escape with a 60-54 win.

Senior guard Ariel Smith led Brooklyn filling up the stat sheet with a game high 19 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists, while junior Justine O'Callahan had a big double-double with 18 points and a game-best 16 boards. Sophomore Tiayana Logan was solid with seven points and eight rebounds.

Hunter was led by freshman Kristen Markoe, who scored 19 points while hitting on three shots from behind the arc, to go along with eight rebounds. Nicole Lenard and Shamar Stewartson were also in double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Lenard also grabbed eight boards to go with eight steals, while Stewartson dished out six assists.

Brooklyn will travel to Ramapo on Monday for a 2 pm game against the Roadrunners, while Hunter will have to wait until Wednesday to get back to the hardwood as they will take on Medgar Evers at the Crown Heights campus.
