Rensselaer Women's Basketball Rolls Past Clarkson, 73-40

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer women's basketball team limited Clarkson University to just three field goals in the second half, while cruising to a 73-40 victory, at East Campus Arena. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights fall to 3-9 (0-2 Liberty League).

Junior Sarah Wetmore (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury Regional) paced RPI offensively, scoring a game-high 23 points, to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Senior Linda Larsen (Kobenhavn, V., Denmark/Himmelev) chipped in with nine points, three assists and three steals.

An evenly played first 10 minutes saw Clarkson take a three-point lead (15-12), before 15-2 run by the Engineers put the hosts in front for good. Junior Lauren Hayes (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) capped the scoring run with a lay-up at 5:52 of the first.

Rensselaer's lead ballooned to as large as 13 on two occasions in the opening stanza, before it settled on 36-26 at halftime.

In the second half the Engineers' tighten their defense and held the Golden Knights to just 13.0% (3 for 23) shooting from the floor, including 1 for 11 (9.1%) from three-point range. RPI scored 28 points of 26 Clarkson turnovers in the game, helping it build a 29-point (66-37) spread with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

A basket by junior Nicole Monroe (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) gave the Engineers their largest lead (73-38) with just 48 seconds left.

Clarkson junior Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY/Lake George) notched a team-best 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting (50%), while senior Sierra Noles (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) dropped in seven points, to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Engineers return to action on Tuesday, when they visit travel partner Vassar (6pm). The Golden Knights return to the floor next weekend, when they host Skidmore and Union on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (2pm), respectively.
