Center Valley, PA (January 15, 2011) – Senior Lori Lidlow scored a game-high 21 points and the DeSales University women's basketball team held FDU-Florham to just 12.5 percent shooting en route to a 62-32 win over the Devils in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Lidlow tallied her 21 points on an efficient 8-of-18 shooting afternoon as the lone double digit scorer for the Bulldogs. Both junior Cherelle Simmons and senior Shaina Dymond grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and combined for 12 points.
Senior Hannah Smith dished out a game-high six assists, senior Megan Montchyk led the charge off the bench with nine points and freshman Faith Gilbert had some very productive first-half minutes with eight points and two important three-pointers in the win.
Melissa DeHaas totaled 10 points and seven rebounds and senior Shealyn Taggart had eight points and nine boards to lead the Devils.
This game was all about the DeSales (9-6, 3-2 Freedom) defense as they held FDU (6-9, 2-3 Freedom) to just one made field goal over its first 22 attempts and after holding the Devils to just five first-half field goals in the first half, the Bulldogs bettered the performance in the second half by forcing Florham into 3-for-31 shooting over the final 20 minutes.
The lead was 18 at the break and was as high as 33 points twice before the final 30-point margin was posted. The Bulldogs had 12 assists and just 10 turnovers; marking the second straight game DSU has had more assists than turnovers.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, January 19th when they travel to Wilkes University for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
