Cortland Cruises Past Potsdam, 75-40

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Brittany Cohen (Fayetteville/Jamesville-DeWitt) led Cortland with 18 points and seven assists as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Potsdam, 75-40, in a SUNYAC contest. Cortland improves to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in league play, and the Red Dragons now have a record of 100-6 at home in SUNYAC regular-season games since head coach Jeannette Mosher took over the program in 1998.
 
Cohen made 7-of-12 shots, including 3-of-7 three-pointers, and also registered three steals. Junior Micki Volpini (Newfield) finished with 17 points and six rebounds. She was 8-of-8 from the foul line and is a combined 21-of-21 from the charity stripe over the last two games.
 
Senior Jennifer Patten (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) contributed 15 points, a game-high nine rebounds and here assists to the winning cause. She scored 13 points in the first half. Senior Jen Polan (Westhampton Beach) connected on 3-of-5 three-pointers and finished with nine points and four assists.
 
Potsdam (2-11, 1-5 SUNYAC) was led by Brittany Whitton's (De Kalb/Hermon-De Kalb) 10 points. Aimee Kellicutt (Lisle/Whitney Point) recorded four assists and four steals and Sophie Parks (Bogart, GA/North Oconee) pulled down six rebounds.
 
Cortland led 19-16 with 9:42 left in the first half before mounting a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 35-18 lead. The Red Dragons 41-21 at halftime, and the margin was in the 20's and 30's most of the second half.
 
Cortland shot 46 percent from the field and was 9-of-23 (39 percent) from three-point range. The Bears were held to 28 percent shooting from the floor, including just 19 percent (6-of-32) in the second half.
 
The Red Dragons return to action on Friday, Jan. 21, at Brockport at 6 p.m.
