Rangers Stunned by Gophers

More news about: Drew

MADISON, N.J. (January 14, 2011) - In a turnover-filled battle it was Goucher College who emerged victorious, 55-51 in the nightcap of Landmark Conference doubleheader tonight at Baldwin Gym. Despite three players in double-figures, Drew (7-6, 1-3 Landmark) could not outlast the feisty Gophers.

Goucher's Precious Kollock had nine of her team-high 13 points in the second half to help Goucher (1-11, 1-3 Landmark) capture its first victory of the season. The Gophers shot a blistering 52 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes and were steady from the free-throw line shooting 11-for-14.

On the contrary Drew (7-6, 1-3 Landmark), could not get the offense going. The Rangers struggled from beyond the arc going 7-of-34 including a 2-for-14 drought in the first half. Poor shooting capped off by an injury to the team's leading scorer, Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.)  late in the second half made it difficult to find the offensive groove.

A Gopher three by Taquasia Lambert with 3:21 remaining put Goucher up for good. Once they established the lead they were able to close out the game from the charity stripe, going 8-for-10 over the final three minutes of play.

Before leaving the game, Barber tallied 14 points and an assist while teammate, Jen Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) matched her career-high of 14 points. Mateo hit three of the Rangers seven threes on the night while also dishing off a team-high four assists. Victoria Ault (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) was the other Ranger in double figures as she added 13 points on the night.

The Rangers will get right back to it as they host Catholic at 4:00 PM tomorrow afternoon. The game is Drew's First Annual "Take a Kid to the Game" event where children under the age of 17 are admitted free.
