Efficient Bullets Turn Away Shorewomen 66-48

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Gettysburg College to a 66-48 victory over Washington College in Centennial Conference women's hoops action Saturday inside Bream Gym.

Gettysburg (8-3, 3-3 CC) turned in one of its most efficient games of the season, dishing out 23 assists against just eight turnovers, while holding the league's best rebounding team 15 caroms below its season average. Moser recorded her first 20-point effort since putting up 23 in the team's season opener against York (N.Y.) College and she is now just 16 points shy of 1,400 for her career.

Washington (3-8, 1-5 CC) held an early lead over the hosts following a pair of free throws by Erin Kile which made it 13-10 at 11:24. Gettysburg would turn in the next two buckets to regain the advantage, and following a series of scoring exchanges, the Bullets mounted a nine-point run to jump ahead by 10 (27-17) with under four minutes left in the half.

After the Shorewomen sliced the lead to six, six-straight points by Gettysburg, including an old-fashioned three-point play by freshman Cori Younghans (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury), pushed the lead to 12. Claire Mattox knocked down a three-pointer to set the first-half scoring at 33-24.

The Bullets kept the heat on in the final period as the lead grew to 18 (47-29) following back-to-back buckets by junior Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown). The lead never dipped below 14 for the remainder of the contest.

Gettysburg's turnover total was its lowest in the last decade, while the hosts scored 27 points off 19 Washington miscues. The Bullets canned 31-of-67 field goals (46.3 percent) and won the battle on the glass 37-32.

Moser bucketed 10 points in each half and finished 10-of-21 from the field overall. McGrory and junior Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) each posted 10 points. Freshman Rianna Doane (Glen Mills, Pa./Bayard Rustin) posted nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field to go with four rebounds and three assists.

Erin Kile led Washington with 14 points, including an 8-for-10 performance at the free throw line. Claire Mattox added 11 points on the strength of three three-pointers and Erin Fitzgerald posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Gettysburg jumps back into the fold on Tuesday, Jan. 11, against Bryn Mawr College (0-11, 0-8 CC) inside Bream Gym at 7 p.m.
