Ohio Northern posts dominating 76-41 win at Heidelberg to remain unbeaten in the OAC

TIFFIN, Ohio —Sophomore point guard Katie Mengos posted 15 points to lead the Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 76-41 victory Wednesday evening over Heidelberg in Seiberling Gymnasium.

Senior Jeanne Bockey and freshman Cenzie Yoder also chipped in 10 points in the win. Sophomore Joanna Snyder contributed nine points and six rebounds.

The Polar Bears advance to 11-2 overall this season and remain undefeated in Ohio Athletic Conference action posting a 6-0 record.  The Berg fall to 1-11 overall and 0-5 in OAC play.

At the start of the game, Heidelberg went on an 8-2 run and held the lead until the 17:16 mark on a Snyder layup. The two teams traded baskets and were tied at 14-all midway through the half.

Combined pairs of free throws from junior Steph Hicks and Yoder sparked a 19-5 ONU run, putting the Polar Bears ahead 34-18 at the end of the first half.

The Polar Bears came out in the second half and went on a 12-3 run capped off by a Mengos shot from beyond the arc, giving ONU a 46-20 advantage with 16:13 left in the contest.

Heidelberg responded with a 6-0 run at the 14:50 mark, however the Polar Bears had created to large of a gap to prevent the Berg to come back.

With 4:20 remaining, two free throws from sophomore Morgan Dumbaugh began a dominant 14-0 run finished with a layup from junior Megan Porter, giving the Polar Bears their largest lead of the game, 76-39.

The Polar Bears shot 43.8 percent from 3-point range, sinking 7 of 16 attempts and knocked down 27 of 57 field goals for a 47.4 shooting percentage.  

ONU also made 15 of 17 free throws to earn an 88.2 free throw shooting percentage.

Jenny Miller led Heidelberg offense with 12 points, and Emily Giel and Casey Bishop each added nine points.

The Polar Bears can next been seen in action Saturday as they travel to Alliance to take on No. 13 Mount Union at 2 p.m.
