The City College of New York women's basketball team (2-10 Overall, 0-3 CUNYAC) lost its seventh consecutive contest, falling to the Hawks of Hunter College (4-8 Overall, 2-1 CUNYAC) by a score of 66-44 Wednesday evening in a City University of New York Athletic Conference game played at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in Upper Manhattan.

CCNY led the game early by a score of 4-2 just 3:50 into the contest on a jumper by Syreeta Williams. The Hawks would then put forth a 26-9 run from there to balloon their lead to 28-13 with 3:32 remaining in the half. The Beavers would then close the session on an 8-2 run, cutting their deficit to just nine points as Hunter College took a 30-21 into the locker room at halftime.

The Beavers continued their rally when play began in the second half, opening up the session on an impressive 10-2 run and extending their run dating back to the first half to 18-4. With 15:18 left in the game, the Hawks led the Beavers by a score of 32-31. From there, though, it would be all Hunter, as the Hawks outscored CCNY the rest of the way by a score of 34-14 to account for their 22 point victory.

Leading the way for Hunter College in their victory was standout point guard Shamar Stewartson as she scored a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 38 minutes of action. Kristen Markoe had a double-double as she scored 11 points, snatched 13 caroms, dished four assists, blocked two shots, and tallied two steals, and Nicole Lenard came up just short of recording a double-double, as she finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

Despite the loss for the Beavers, it was Donika Rexhepi nailing 11 of her 13 free throws and finishing with team-highs in points with 17 and rebounds with 10. In addition, Alexis Billups, in her second game back from injury, connected on five of her seven shots from the floor and completed her evening with 10 points to go along with four assists, four steals, and three rebounds, and Sajidah Pressley dropped in four points and dished four assists.

Hunter College shot 38.8 percent from the floor (26-67), while CCNY hit on 28.3 percent of theirs (15-53). The Hawks dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Beavers by a count of 52-32, including a 21-10 difference on the offensive glass. Both teams committed 16 turnovers, and both squads also tallied eight steals apiece.

The Beavers will return to action on Monday evening as the team will host Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference contest at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, with game-time scheduled for 5:00pm.
