The win snapped an eight-game losing streak against the Purple
Raiders and improved Pioneers' record to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the
league. Mount Union, ranked #11 by USA Today/ESPN and #13 by D3Hoops.com, fell to 10-2 overall
and 4-2 in the OAC.

Mallory
Hoff (Newport/Frontier) added a season-best 18 points to
go along with nine rebounds and game-high four blocks. Freshman
guard Tori
Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) also chipped in with
five points and a career-high nine assists, while junior wing

Jones (Dublin/Coffman) had eight points ad five boards in
the win.
Kori Wiedt led the way for the Purple Raiders with 18 points on
the night. Katie Crider was the only other Mount Union player to
score in double figures. She finished with 12 off the bench.
Both teams traded baskets on each other throughout the first 13:55
of the first half to make the scored tied 24-24. The Pioneers then
closed the half on a 19-9 run, which included a desperation three
from Hoff at the buzzer, and into the locker room leading by 10
points, 43-33.
A lay up from Hoff and a Jones three-pointer pushed the lead to 15
points, 48-33, with 18:54 to play in regulation. The Raiders then
started to slowly chip away at the Pioneers' lead. Mount Union cut
the lead down inside five points on three separate occasions, but
Marietta responded to push the lead back above five points each
time.
A three by Wiedt with 2:37 to play trimmed the lead to three
points, 69-66. The Pioneers could not capitalize on their next
possession and then saw a three from Crider go in to tie the game
at 69 with 1:15 to play. After fourth-year Head Coach Jill Meiring
called a timeout, the Pioneers went back to Guiler. The sophomore
post delved a clutch turn-around jumper in the paint with 43
seconds on the clock to put Marietta up two points, 71-69. Marietta
then forced a Purple Raider turnover on the next possession and the
Raiders were forced to foul. Guiler calmly walked to the charity
stripe and nailed two free throws to push the advantage to four
points, 73-69. Mount Union could not connect on its last two
frantic shots and Marietta pulled off the 73-69 upset win.
Marietta finished the game shooting 53.7% (29-of-54) from the
field, 29.4% (5-of-17) from three and 90.9% (10-of-11) from the

in the paint. The Purple Raiders finished the night shooting 32.8%
(20-of-61) from the field, 44.0% (11-of-25) from three and 85.7%

Union 38-31 but committed 19 turnovers to Mount Union's 12.
