Frank Scores Late Basket in Win over UW-Superior

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the WIAC with a 61-59 victory over UW-Superior Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Yellowjackets fall to 6-7 overall and 0-4 in the WIAC. It is UW-L's eighth straight win over UW-Superior. The Eagles have won 12 of the last 13 meetings with the Yellowjackets.

UW-L, receiving votes on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, led 8-6 with 12:04 left in the first half when it went on a 12-1 run to lead 20-7. UW-Superior cut the lead to 37-30 at halftime.

The Yellowjackets took a 44-43 lead with 14:35 left in the game on a Kelsey Thingvold layup. UW-Superior led by three at 46-43 after a Bri Davis jumper with 13:51 left. 

UW-Superior took a 52-48 lead with 7:33 remaining, but UW-L used a 11-2 run to take a 59-54 lead with 4:09 left. Kristen Nett tied the contest for the Yellowjackets with a three-pointer with 2:40 remaining at 59-59. UW-L took the lead at 61-59 on Danielle Frank's layup with 1:02 left. 

UW-Superior turned the ball over on its next possession and fouled Lindsey Litrenta with :21 left. She missed the free throw, but Davis missed the potential game-tying jumper with :01 remaining. 

Litrenta led UW-L with 19 points, finishing seven-of-13 from the field, including three-of-five from three-point range. She was two-of-three at the free throw line. Frank recorded a double-double with 13 points and game-high 14 rebounds. Dana Churchill finished with 11 points. 

UW-L shot 37.9% from the field, including 23.1% (six-of-26) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 64.7% (11-of-17) at the free throw line.

Hailey Hart led UW-Superior with 19 points and nine rebounds while Connie Urmanski had 15 points. The Yellowjackets shot 41.8% from the field, including 50.0% (six-of-12) from three-point range. The team shot 46.7% (seven-of-15) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 8 at 10th-ranked UW-Stevens Point starting at 5:05 p.m.
