Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team returned to action on Tuesday night and fell on the road at Farmingdale State by a score of 71-48. Three Dolphins scored in double-figures on the night with junior Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) posting her second double-double of the season and scoring a career-high 12 points.
Mount Saint Vincent never led in the game on Tuesday night after the Rams opened the game with an 8-0 run. After the quick spurt to open the game, the Dolphins came on to knot the score at 11-11 after a Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) triple with 13:00 left to play before the half.
After the Montague three pointer, Farmingdale State ran off the next 18 points of the half to pull in front 29-11. The Rams would go on to open their largest lead of the half with just under three minutes left on a Jeanette Zubizarreta triple that pushed them in front 38-18. The Mount would respond with a 6-0 spurt to end the frame, as they trailed 38-24 at the break.
Mount Saint Vincent would quickly get its deficit down to 11 points after a Kerry O'Connor (Bethpage, N.Y.) three-pointer to open the second half, but Farmingdale State would score 17 of the next 19 points overall and would not let its lead slip under 20 points the remainder of the contest. The Rams largest lead of the night with 4:28 left when Keona Jones pushed the lead to 28 points.
Overall on the night, Farmingdale State shot just over 42-percent from the floor and had 12 different players reach the scoring column. Kayla Koch led the Rams with 10 points with Juanita Chappel adding six points and a team-high five assists.
Mount Saint Vincent failed to shoot 40-percent from the floor for the eighth time in nine games after shooting just 30.6-percent from the field. The Dolphins were led in the scoring column by freshman Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, N.Y.) who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Andree DeLeon (Flushing, N.Y.) added 11 points for the Mount and handed out a game-high six assists.
McNish notched her second double-double of the season for Mount Saint Vincent and went 6-for-11 from the floor on her way to a career-high 12 tallies. She also led all players in the game with 10 rebounds to go along with a steal and a blocked shot.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-7 overall on the season and to 1-5 against Skyline Conference foes. After a day off on Wednesday the Mount will be back in action again on Thursday at Purchase. Tip-off with the Panthers is set for 5:00 p.m.
