Ferrum Women Rout Emory & Henry

FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's basketball team closed out 2010 in style, routing in-state rival Emory & Henry College 96-38 tonight at home.  The win was Ferrum's sixth straight since opening the season with a pair of losses.

The Panthers jumped out to a 26-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 46-point halftime lead.  Tesla Akers led Ferrum with 16 points on 7-14 shooting, including a pair of three-point buckets.

Kayla Goins had 14 points and eight steals.  Kelsey Frazier and Katy Kipps each chipped in 12 points, with Frazier pulling down 12 boards as well.

Christina Howard led all scorers with 17 points and Courtney Brooks had a game-high 14 rebounds for  Emory & Henry (1-6).  Ferrum out-rebounded the Wasps 61-32.

Ferrum (6-2) is back in action Monday, Jan. 3, at North Carolina Wesleyan College.  The USA South game gets underway at 5:30 p.m. in Rocky Mount, N.C.
