DePauw Advances to Amy Hasbrook Tourney Title Game

DePauw improved to 8-2 on the season and advanced to the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament Championship game with a 60-33 win over Rose-Hulman (3-7).

The Tigers will face John Carroll (7-3) which held on for a 79-75 win over Ripon (4-4). Wednesday's third-place game is at 3 p.m. and the title contest is set for 5 p.m.

DePauw, ranked 11th by D3hoops.com and 15th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll, led 11-6 with 13:30 left in the first half before scoring 10 straight over the next five minutes to push the margin to 21-6. The Engineers countered with a bucket, but the Tigers scored the next nine to take a 22-point lead on the way to a 32-12 halftime advantage.

After Rose-Hulman opened the second half with a bucket, the Tigers scored the next 10 to pull away for the win.

Lauren Goff led the Tigers with 15 points on five three-pointers, while Katie Mathews followed with 12 and Katie Aldrich 10. Alex Gasaway grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in just 14 minutes off the bench as the Tigers held a 42-23 advantage on the boards. Kate Walker dished out five assists and had five steals.

Lauren Meadows paced Rose-Hulman with 10 points and Kelsey Ploof grabbed seven rebounds.

The Tigers shot just 33.8 percent from the field, but outscored Rose-Hulman, 20-0, in second-chance points as they grabbed 22 offensive rebounds to the Engineers' one. The Tigers also held a 32-12 edge in points off of turnovers as they committed 17 to the Engineers' 33. Rose-Hulman shot 40 percent for the game including 50 percent in the second half.

In the day's opening game, John Carroll led by as many as 20 in the first half at 29-9, but the Red Hawks closed the margin to as little as one at 65-64. The Blue Streaks pushed the lead back to nine, but Ripon closed the gap to five with 1:32 left, but couldn't convert on its next two possessions.

John Carroll's Lee Jennings led all scorers with 25 points and added seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Emilee Ritchie added 20 points, while Sadie Zander followed with 13. Katie Knox led the Blue Streaks with 10 rebounds.

Five Ripon players scored in double figures and three posted double-doubles. Emily Meyer scored 15 and hauled down 13 boards, while Chelsea Aicher followed with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jill Van Eperen scored 11 and had 10 rebounds, while Brittany Johnson and Katie Raymond also scored 11 each. Kacie Cullen dished out six assists in the loss.

John Carroll shot 53.6 percent for the game including 60 percent in the second half, while Ripon hit 39.1 percent from the floor. The Red Hawks held a 48-32 edge on the glass, but only a 16-13 advantage in second-chance points.
