The Millikin women's basketball team defeated previously unbeaten Wisconsin Lutheran 67-54 on Dec. 17 in the opening game of Millikin's Harriett Crannell Holiday Classic. Millikin improves to 6-3 while Wisconsin Lutheran goes to 6-1.
After tying the game at 2-2, the Big Blue lead the rest of the way building a 35-23 advantage at the half. The Warriors battled back late in the second half pulling to within four points on two different occasions, before Millikin sealed the victory.
Millikin's top scorer was Elise Wildman with 17 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Wildman become the 20th player in Millikin women's basketball history to go over the 1,000 point mark in her career. Wildman now stands at 1,009.
Three other Big Blue players scored in double figures including Beth Wellbaum and Nikki Tipsword each scoring 13 and Julia Robert adding 12.
Shavon Dillon led the Warriors with 17 points while Rachel Johnson added 12.
Both teams shot an identical 24-57 from the field (42 percent). Millikin was 10-20 from three point range while the Warriors were only 5-20. Millikin was 9-12 from the line while Wisconsin Lutheran hit only one of seven.
Millikin will host Blackburn on Sunday at 3 p.m.
