CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team continued their hottest start since 1997-98 with a 57-52 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC moved to 10-0 on the season, while the Lady Cru dropped to 6-2.
The Lady Choctaws opened the 1997-98 season with a 20-0 record before losing four of their last five games and being knocked out of the tournament.
Senior forward Jalessa Taylor led the Lady Choctaws with 26 points on 12-20 shooting. Taylor also led MC with seven rebounds in the game. No other Lady Choctaw finished in double-figures as MC suffered from a poor shooting night in which they only made 23-56 (41.1%) of their shots.
Senior Randa Lee ran an effective offense with six assists and six points scored in playing all but one minute of the game. Senior Jennifer Wair tied Taylor for the team lead with seven boards.
The MC defense stifled UMHB, holding the Lady Cru to only 32.8% (20-61) shooting. Landie Thompson led the team with 15 points, while Brittany Zamora added 13 points. UMHB only made 3-23 (13.0%) three-pointers in the game.
The Lady Choctaws enter the Christmas break with a perfect 10-0 mark and will be back in action at home against Hendrix College on December 30th at 5:30 p.m.
