NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Cadets wrapped up the first half of their season on Monday night, hosting in-state rival Castleton State College at Andrews Hall. The Cadets current four-game winning streak was put to an end by the Spartans, 70-49.

For Norwich (5-4), senior captain Christine Daniels continues to have her best season with the Cadets, recording her fifth-straight double-double game. Daniels earned a game-high 14 rebounds, while netting 11 points. She also made four steals and was credited with one block and one assist.

Sophomore Andrea Vogt stepped up for Norwich, leading the Cadets with 13 points, while making eight boards. Senior Karissa Doyon, Norwich's power-shooter, made 12 points, three boards and two steals.

For Castleton (5-3), junior Christine Jaques led the Spartans with her double-double performance, recording 13 points and 11 rebounds, all which were defensive boards. Sophomore Tarryn Bolognani led her team with 15 points and made three steals and two assists.

Each contributing 13 points apiece was senior Kristie Dunchus and freshman Alyssa Leonard. Leonard also earned a team-high four assists.

The Spartans held a 16-point advantage over the Cadets going into halftime, but Norwich held them to a six point difference in the second half of play. The Cadets only lead of the game was in the first few minutes of action, after Doyon sank a 3-pointer to put Norwich up 3-2. In the next ten seconds, the Spartans took back their lead on a Bolognani layup and the Cadets spent the remainder of the game working to close the double-digit gap that had grown between the opponents' scores.

Norwich women's basketball returns to action on Jan. 3 at Clarkson. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Cadets will play their first three games after the break on the road, before returning to Andrews Hall on Jan. 11 to host Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 7 p.m.
