Greensboro Tops Shenandoah Women

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  Host Greensboro College kept its women's basketball record perfect with a 67-48 USA South Conference women's basketball victory over Shenandoah Sunday afternoon.

GC (7-0, 3-0 USA South) led for the final 34 minutes of the contest against the Hornets (2-6, 0-3).

Shenandoah led three times in the early going, the last following a Nicole Gilbertson layup at the 15:47 mark.

Greensboro answered with a 10-2 run to take a 17-9 lead with 12:26 remaining; the Pride eventually pushed its first half advantage out to 13 points before taking a 33-22 lead into the break.

GC opened the second half with a 7-1 run and SU was never able to cut the deficit under 15 points in the final 15 minutes of the contest.

Senior Sierra Edwards paced the Hornets with nine points with classmate Stephanie Holton and junior Mandy Johnston adding eight each.

Danielle Duncan and Nikki Wilborn posted 18 points apiece for the victors.

Shenandoah shot 30.4 percent (17 for 56) and outrebounded Greensboro 44-39.

Gilbertson had a team-high seven boards for the Hornets.

Shenandoah returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against future ODAC foe Eastern Mennonite.
