Ericson's Free Throws in Closing Seconds Gives Montclair Win Against Susquehanna, 55-51

Montclair, NJ (12/11/10) – Junior Jaime Ericson (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) scored a game-high 19 points, including the game's final four points, to help Montclair State University post a narrow 55-51 victory over Susquehanna University in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon at the Panzer Athletic Center.

Ericson broke a 51-51 tie by hitting an off-balanced layup to give Montclair State (4-4) the lead for good with 57 seconds to play. The 6-1 guard then iced the game with 6.1 seconds left by sinking both ends of a one-plus-one situation from the free throw line.

Susquehanna (4-5), which never held the lead, rallied four times to tie the score. Sophomore forward Gina Palazzi (Harwinton, Conn./Lewis S. Mills), who scored 13 points for the Crusaders, missed another chance to even the game by missing two free throws with 35.9 seconds remaining.

MSU opened up a 10-point advantage, the game's biggest margin, late in the first half before going into the intermission, ahead 30-27. The Red Hawks scored 10 consecutive points, including five from freshman guard Sara Kelley(Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and five from Ericson, who scored 11 of her points in the half, to take a 28-18 lead with 3:12 to play.

Senior Kisandra Ayanbeku (Brockton, Mass./Morris Hills) posted her second straight and third double-double performance of the season by scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for Montclair State.

Senior guard Erika Barron (Tarnaqua, Pa./Tarnaqua Area) topped Susquehanna with 14 points and handed out a game-high five assists.

Montclair State will look for a second straight win when it plays SUNY-New Paltz on Monday (Dec. 13) at 7 p.m.
