NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior guard Stephanie Coro (No. Providence, R.I.) bested her career average versus Salve Regina University women's basketball by one point to lead the Rhode Island College (6-1) Anchorwomen to a 66-50 non-league victory at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

In her previous two meetings with the Seahawks, Coro posted 18 points in each of the Anchorwomen victories. Tonight she shared game-high scoring honors (19 points) with Salve Regina senior forward Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.).

Salve Regina (5-2) cut into a 19-point deficit with a 21-6 run over nearly 13 minutes of the second half to close within 48-44 with 5:01 remaining. Sophomore point guard Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.) scored six of her nine points during that stretch including a pair of free throws. The Seahawks went 6-for-6 from the line during the run.

Freshman forward Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.) scored six points during that stretch as well, before RIC sophomore forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, Mass.) ignited a 16-4 run for the visitors and another double-digit lead. Burns converted a three-point play when she was fouled making a layup at 4:40 in the second half, and then added a jumper and another layup at 1:17 for a 57-46 lead.

Burns finished with a double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) as did junior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, R.I.) (15 points, 15 rebounds). The Seahawks also had two players record a double-double: Phillips had 11 boards along with her 19 points and senior forward Victoria Audet (Broad Brook, Conn.), who posted her first career double-double last Saturday against MCLA, made it back-to-back with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Rhode Island College plays at UMass Boston on Saturday in its second Little East Conference game of the season. Salve Regina entertains Westfield State College on Saturday for its fifth straight home contest. After breaking for exams, the Seahawks will travel to Nassau, Bahamas for a pair of games against out-of-region opponents (Dec. 20-21).
