NEWBURGH, N.Y.- Mount Saint Mary College defeated Skyline Conference opponent, Old Westbury, by a score of 67-34 to remain unbeaten in conference play. A 12-0 run to close out the first half allowed the Knights to pull away from the Panthers. The Knights are now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Panthers move to 3-2 on the season and stand at 2-1 in the Skyline Conference.
With just 6:58 remaining in the first half the score was 23-22 in the Knights favor. The Knights went on a 12-0 run to close out the half and the Mount held a 33-22 advantage going into the locker room. Senior Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.) netted six of her game-high 19 points in the final six minutes of the half. The Knights also received a boost from junior Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.), who converted two jumpers during the 12-0 run.
Defense was a strong point for the Knights in the second half, as they held Old Westbury to a 19.2% shooting percentage. The Panthers shot 5-26 in the second half and were limited to just 12 points on the half. Tice was a presence at both ends of the court recording four steals, dishing out five assists and collecting 10 rebounds to complete her double-double. Several players contributed to the offensive effort as well. Horvers finished with 10 points, sophomore Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) contributed 13 points and junior Beth Deer (Guilderland, N.Y.) added seven points. Deer grabbed seven rebounds and the trio composed of junior Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.), sophomore Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and freshman Fallon Witte (Loudonville, N.Y.) accounted for fifteen rebounds. Freshman Kim Weathers (Wyandanch, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 12 points for the Panthers.
The Knights will host Skyline Conference opponent Bard College on Wednesday, December 8. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. and a men's game will follow at 8:00 p.m.
