Girard's 11 Helps RIC Women's Hoop Win Low-Scoring Affair

New London, Conn.Rhode Island College junior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, RI) led the Anchorwomen with 11 points, while junior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, in a 50-38 win at Connecticut College. It was the third straight win for RIC.

 

RIC (6-1) continued its impressive defensive prowess, forcing 30 Camel turnovers and swiping 12 steals. The Anchorwomen shot just 29 percent (17-for-58) and made only one three-pointer in 11 attempts.

 

Connecticut College (2-4) outrebounded their guests, 41-37, and shot a dismal 24 percent (10-for-42). The hosts were 0-12 from downtown and an amazing 18 (18-for-20) of their points came from the free throw line.

 

 It was a two-point advantage, 25-23, lead for the Anchorwomen at the half. RIC went on to outscore Conn. College, 25-15, over the final 20 minutes.

 

 Riley added eight points, three assists, two steals and a block. Sophomore guard Ashley O'Dell (Lincoln, RI) equaled Riley's offensive effort.

 

 Jennifer Shinall led the Camels with 11 points.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will  host Eastern Connecticut in the Little East Conference opener for both clubs on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.
